With profound sorrow, we announce the departure of our beloved Amelia Folkedahl, a cherished daughter, sister, and friend, who peacefully left this world on January 15, 2023, at the age of 42. Amelia’s passing has created a void that words can only attempt to convey.
Born on March 8, 1980, in Springfield, Illinois, Amelia brought boundless joy and warmth to the lives she touched. A graduate of Springfield High School, she pursued her love for storytelling and the written word at the University of Illinois, earning a degree in English Literature.
Amelia’s professional journey led her to a rewarding career in publishing, where her dedication and kindness made her not only a committed colleague but a supportive presence in the workplace.
Beyond her career, Amelia was an adventurous traveler, finding solace and inspiration in exploring diverse corners of the world. From the vibrant streets of Paris to the tranquil landscapes of Kyoto, her adventurous spirit knew no bounds, leaving behind cherished travel tales.
Her love extended beyond borders, as Amelia devoted herself to various charitable causes, believing in making a positive impact on the lives of others. Family was the heart of her being, and she is survived by her parents, Richard and Margaret Thompson, her brother, Michael Thompson, and a host of extended family members and dear friends who cherished her vibrant spirit.
A memorial service to celebrate Amelia’s life will take place on January 28, 2023, at Springfield Community Church. Friends and family will gather to share memories, find solace, and celebrate a life well-lived.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, a reflection of Amelia’s passion for supporting those facing health challenges.
