Darrin McMichael Obituary – Death: Arlington police officer died in Dallas hit-and-run accident on I-20
The Arlington police officer who tragically lost his life in a hit-and-run SUV-motorcycle crash in Dallas has been identified as Darrin McMichael. This dedicated officer from the Arlington Police Department was involved in a collision on Interstate 20 in Southeast Dallas during the early morning hours of September 21, 2023. Sadly, he sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead as a result of the accident.
Officer Darrin McMichael was on his way to work riding a motorcycle when the collision occurred. The incident took place between 5:30 and 6:00 a.m. in the westbound lanes of the interstate near St. Augustine Road. According to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, it is suspected that Officer McMichael rear-ended the vehicle in front of him, possibly due to traffic slowing down.
Following this initial collision, he lost control of his motorcycle and was struck by a dark-colored SUV, which may have been a Dodge or a Chrysler. Regrettably, the driver of the SUV did not remain at the accident scene. After the crash, Officer Darrin McMichael was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was subsequently pronounced dead.
Officer McMichael had been a dedicated member of the Motorcycle Unit and a veteran of the Arlington Police Department, having served honorably for the past 13 years and a total of 24 years with the department. During his tenure with the Atlanta Police Department, he worked in the North Patrol District as both a patrol officer and a detective.
An extensive investigation into the incident required the westbound lanes of Interstate 20 to be closed between St. Augustine Road and Dowdy Ferry Road for several hours. Condolences are being extended to the Arlington Police Department, Officer Darrin McMichael’s family, and friends during this difficult time.
