Scottish DJ and producer Jamie Roy has died at the age of 33. Originally from Dumfries, Roy made his name in Glasgow and continues to perform around the world. Friends and colleagues in the music industry called the DJ an “incredible man” and his songs were regularly played on BBC Radio 1.

Roy’s family confirmed his death on Tuesday, but gave no further details.

A statement posted on social media on Wednesday said: “Jamie was a much-loved and talented son, brother, nephew and uncle, beloved by many of his friends and colleagues inside and outside the music industry.

“We are all very sad.”

The musician is known as a regular performer in Ibiza, performing at venues such as Pacha, Amnesia and Ibiza Rocks.

Earlier this month, Roy announced on social media that he would soon be releasing “the greatest track of my life” with one of “the greatest producers in the world.”

Over the past year, he has performed at events around the world, including the Unum Festival in Albania, the Sonic Festival in Croatia and the BPM Festival in Costa Rica.

House music producer Defected Records praised Roy as “a great producer, DJ and friend to many in our industry”. Scottish DJ and producer Ewan McVicar said Roy was “one of the good guys, always with unparalleled positive energy, no ulterior motives, just a good guy”.

He added: “So sad. I’m so disappointed.”

Electronic musician Paul Woolford tweeted: “Lights up every room he walks into. An incredible human being.
