Tragically, a Las Vegas teenager, Jonathan Lewis Jr., who was brutally assaulted by a group of approximately 15 individuals near Rancho High School last week, succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday, according to his father, Jonathan Lewis Sr. The 17-year-old had been undergoing treatment for life-threatening injuries sustained during the altercation at University Medical Center.
Jonathan Lewis Sr. recounted that the incident unfolded when his son courageously stood up for a smaller friend, resulting in an attack by several individuals. Lewis explained that, initially failing to inflict significant harm, the assailants escalated the violence collectively. The teenager was discovered bleeding from the head on November 1, near Searles Avenue and North 21st Street, close to Rancho High.
The Metropolitan Police Department reported that the teen had engaged in a confrontation with about 15 people and was subsequently transported to UMC in critical condition. Jonathan Lewis Jr.’s father refrained from commenting on the ongoing police investigation into the brawl and conveyed that the family had not yet finalized funeral arrangements.
In an email, Lewis portrayed his son as a “loving, giving, kind, fierce young man who loved community and caring for others.” He expressed that this tragedy reflects the divisive and uncaring state of society, underscoring the urgent need for empathy and love to prevail over violence.
