Taylor Swift Fan’s Cause of Death Revealed After Concert Collapse
The cause of death for the Taylor Swift fan who tragically passed away during a concert in Brazil has been revealed as heat exhaustion. Ana Clara Benevides, 23, collapsed during Swift’s performance in Rio de Janeiro on November 17, 2023, specifically during the second song, “Cruel Summer.”
On that day, temperatures in Rio de Janeiro soared to 105 degrees Fahrenheit. According to the forensic report obtained by the Associated Press, Benevides experienced cardiorespiratory arrest due to heat exposure. The report emphasized that she was otherwise healthy and not involved in substance abuse.
NBC News reported the cause of death as heat exhaustion leading to cardiovascular and respiratory issues, with alveolar hemorrhage and polyvisceral congestion caused by diffuse exposure to heat. Benevides had traveled from Mato Grosso do Sul state in midwest Brazil to attend the concert.
Swift expressed her sorrow on Instagram, stating, “I can’t believe I’m writing these words, but it’s with a shattered heart that I say we lost a fan earlier tonight before my show.” Swift emphasized the limited information she had but praised the fan’s beauty and youth.
During the concert, a thousand people reportedly fainted, and fans complained about the venue banning water bottles. Folha de S. Paulo reported that Benevides fainted while on the railing in front of the stage, was revived for 40 minutes, and suffered a second cardiac arrest while being rushed to the hospital.
In response to the tragedy, Brazilian police have initiated an investigation into Time4Fun, the company that organized Swift’s Rio de Janeiro show. Police are examining potential charges of endangering the life and health of concert attendees. Time4Fun’s CEO, Serafim Abreu, issued an apology in a video, acknowledging the responsibility to organize a safe event. Swift postponed her next concert following the unfortunate incident.
