Bob Brown is remembered as a prominent member of parliament, a renowned educator, and a cherished family member.

A week after his passing at the age of 88, Bob participated in local, state, and federal politics for 30 years and was remembered at a service at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Kurri Kurri.

He held the Minister for Land Transport position in the Hawke and Keating Labor administrations from 1988 to 1993. Later, he was promoted to deputy principal but left the position in 1978 to run for state office.

Robert James Brown died at the age of 88, but the death cause is unknown.

Bob Brown served as mayor of Cessnock Council for the first two years of his tenure on the council and once more from 1974 to 1980.

He was elected as an alderman to the board in 1968. He served as the state representative for Cessnock from 1978 to 1980 when he left to contest for the Hunter federal seat, which he won.

Four years later, he ran for and won the newly created seat of Charlton, which he held until his retirement in 1998.

Brown received the Order of Australia on June 11, 2007, for his “contribution to the Australian Parliament, particularly in the field of transport policy, to the community of the Hunter Region through local government, historical and athletic organizations, and to economics education.”

Robert James Brown Illness And Health

Bob Brown was survived by children Brad and Kelly, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Because Bob Brown passed away, there is no news on his health or illness.

He always made time for his family no matter how hectic his working life was or how far into retirement he was. Additionally, he ruled over the Kurri Kurri Rugby League Football Club and the Lions Club.

Bob Brown, born and raised in Pelaw Main, obtained a scholarship to attend the University of Sydney, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in economics in 1954 and his teaching diploma the following year.

In the 1961 federal election, Brown first ran for the Liberal seat of Paterson. Despite gaining a 6.5 percent Labor vote swing, he could not defeat Allen Fairhall, a sitting member and Menzies Government Minister.

Brown then ran for and was elected to the Cessnock Legislative Assembly seat in New South Wales, holding it from 1978 to 1980.
