Joseph Sonnier Obituary- What Is His Death Cause?
Joseph Sonnier was found dead at his home in July 2012. He was shot and stabbed to death.
His obituary does not mention his cause of death, but he died of gunshots. He was shot five times. But even after finding he was dead, the killer stabbed him 11 times before leaving his dead body behind.
A man named Paul Reynolds contacted the authorities five days after the murder and reported that his roommate, David Shepard, said he had killed someone in Lubbock.
Reynolds added he conducted an online search, discovered details regarding Sonnier’s passing, and thought Sonnier might have been Shepard’s victim.

Later, when police interrogated Shepard, he claimed his friend Thomas Michael Dixon had given him a box of pricey Cuban cigars and three silver bars in exchange for killing Sonnier. Moreover, the pawn shot records also showed that the silver bars were cashed by Shepard the day following the murder.
Officers arrested Dixon for the alleged murder on July 16, 2012. But, his first trial began in 2014, when David was made to stand trial. He had already given a confessional and agreed to take a plea deal and testify to avoid the death penalty.
However, he shocks everyone on the stand when he confesses that Dixon was not involved in the murder and he was the one who carried it out.
The defense said that Dixon had only asked Shephard to take pictures of Sonnier with other women to show it to his ex-girlfriend, Richelle Shetina. He wanted to drive a wedge between the couple as he wanted Shetina back in his life.
Joseph Sonnier was killed at his home. The killer, David, is serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole. On the other hand, the person who was accused of giving the order for Sonnier’s murder was convicted of two counts of capital murder in 2015 and given a life sentence without the possibility of release.
But once the District Court of Appeals considered his appeal in 2018, his judgment was reversed. He was consequently freed from jail after paying a $2 million bond.
But, in 2020, he was acquitted of the second count of capital murder, but the first count was affirmed. He is currently serving his sentence of life without parole.

Joseph Sonnier was born and raised in Shreveport. His family had relocated there in 1966. He was a graduate of Captain Shreve High School. He graduated summa cum laude in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge.
He was selected for a pathology residency at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas, where he served as Chief Resident. After completing his education, he joined DPA Laboratories as an employee and was later appointed a partner before selling it to AmeriPath.
He was employed as the Medical Director and Chief Pathologist for Covenant Health System in AmeriPath at the time of his death. His wiki says that he was 57 years old when he passed away.
