Raymond Briggs’s House and Family Within

Briggs spent his latter years in a modest home in Westmeston, Sussex. He lived in the house with his longtime partner Liz until she died in October 2015 because of Parkinson’s disease. After that, he lived there alone, sometimes with his acquaintances.

Raymond loved Sussex so much that he stayed there as a resident for a very long period. While still alive, Raymond and his wife Liz established property in Westmeston, East Sussex, not far from the famed town of Lewes, due to their love of nature and the South Downs.

Raymond was affectionate to his East Sussex house, and the stunning views he enjoyed from his office workstation served as the source of inspiration for many of his work. The Sussex Downs could be seen from Sussex Weald to Ashdown Forest, and Raymond was smitten with his cottage there. He had no plans to leave.

After Biggs passed away, his family issued a statement claiming he had a rich and fulfilling life while alive. The statement further indicated that Biggs’s shared his love of nature with his wife Liz on walks around the South Downs and during family vacations to Scotland and Wales.

Raymond Briggs Was Married Twice

The illustrator was married twice. It was not because of divorce or a bad relationship that he remarried but because he went through the tragedy of spouse loss.

Two years after the passing of Briggs’ parents, his first wife Jean, who had schizophrenia, passed away from leukemia in 1973. There were no kids born to them while in the marital tie. Then he wed Liz, his longtime partner, who tragically passed away in October 2015 after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Despite the catastrophe. He had a stepson named Tom and a stepdaughter named Clare in the name of a family after Liz’s demise.

Briggs was born on January 18, 1934, in Wimbledon Park, London, then called Surre, to mother Ethel Bowyer and father, Ernest Redvers Briggs. Brigg was reared on the earnings of his mother, a maid, and father, a milkman. Both of his parents both passed away in 1971.
