Jeffrey Scott West Blount County Tennessee Obituary – Death: Watch video of 68-year-old father shooting son, then self

Jeffrey Scott West Shooting Incident: According to the Blount County Sheriff’s Office, a tragic incident occurred at a residence on Quarry Hollow Rd. in Friendsville. Jeffrey Scott West, 68, lost his life in what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot. Another individual, 24-year-old Kyle W. Spitze, sustained a gunshot wound to the right ear during a confrontation but is expected to recover.

The authorities were alerted before 8:15 p.m. on Friday, responding to a shooting complaint at the Quarry Hollow Road residence. Upon arrival, Spitze and another resident were outside, and Spitze was promptly treated for his injuries. Spitze shared with officers that he and West had been involved in a dispute inside the house, during which West brandished a revolver, causing Spitze’s injury. Both Spitze and the other individual fled the house and called 911.

Law enforcement, including Crisis Negotiations and Special Weapons and Tactics units, attempted to negotiate with West for a peaceful surrender. When these efforts proved unsuccessful, deputies brought in a K-9 unit just before 11 p.m. Upon entering the residence, they discovered West deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot. Thankfully, the law enforcement officers involved were unharmed during the incident. The Knox County Regional Forensic Center will conduct an autopsy to further investigate the circumstances surrounding West’s death.
